Helping nonprofit leaders do better at doing good

Meet Faculty Member, Roy Schneider

The basics!

Roy Schneider, Attorney at Law, Schneiders & Associates

What do you enjoy most about serving as faculty?

While maintaining my law practice, I am also a Professor at Cal Lutheran University and I am happy to return to teach on the topic of nonprofit board service.  I have a passion for education and enjoy teaching on a number of different topics.

What workshops do you have coming up?  What can attendees expect? Why should people register to attend?

My next workshop is “Board Service 101: Board Member Roles & Responsibilities” on February 21. Knowing your fiduciary and ethical responsibilities is crucial while serving as a member on a nonprofit board. In this workshop you will learn the basics of adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as making sure the organization has adequate resources to advance its mission. We will also cover fiduciary obligations including duty of care, duty of loyalty, duty of obedience and duty to comply with investment standards.

Without directors willing to understand and faithfully execute their duties, the majority of nonprofits would not be in existence or benefiting society. Come learn why it is important to cultivate strong governance policies and build educated and committed boards.

How would you describe your teaching/facilitation style?  What do your students say about you?

My teaching style is a traditional lecture, allow for questions and to encourage student participation. My students have commented that they like my humor and that I provide real life examples and current events that tie in to what they are learning about.
