Restricted Party Screenings

The United States federal government prohibits US persons from engaging in activities or financial transactions with individuals or entities that have been determined to be acting contrary to the national security and/or foreign policy interests of the United States. These are known as “restricted parties.”

Various U.S. government agencies maintain and enforce lists of these restricted or denied parties, including the Department of Commerce, Department of State, Department of Treasury, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Homeland Security, and others. If an individual or entity is found on one of these lists, the University may be legally prohibited from engaging in business or offering services to them.

Restricted Party Screenings

Restricted or denied party screenings are an important part of Cal Lutheran’s export controls compliance program. This process seeks to identify parties that may be prohibited from receiving some or all items subject to export control regulations unless the exporter secures a license. In some cases, licenses are unavailable.

Who should be screened?

Restricted party screenings should be conducted before, but not limited to, the following activities/transactions:

  • International Research Collaborations
  • Teaching Courses Abroad
  • Presenting at or attending International Conferences
  • Hosting International Visitors
  • International Travel
  • Accepting gifts/donations
  • Shipping internationally
  • Purchasing/Procurement
