Dean's Message
I am pleased to welcome you to California Lutheran University's Graduate School of Education (GSOE).
Having just celebrated our 35th year as a school at Cal Lutheran, the GSOE has been steadfast in its development of outstanding, reflective and principled educators. This is framed for the school in its recently adopted (2020) GSOE Vision Statement:
- Guided by social justice and advocacy, we will reimagine education to disrupt inequities and to meet the future needs of students and communities
This vision helps us to produce excellence in teachers, administrators and counselors for elementary, middle, high school and college settings in the public, private and charter sectors. Accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, the GSOE has prepared over 8,000 professionals in K-12 and higher education.
Our faculty members are deeply involved in the local communities and are committed to the idea that their work as teachers and scholars must promote powerful learning in our students. As a result of this commitment, the GSOE has gained a strong reputation in the region as a producer of quality professionals who will often assume leadership roles within local, regional, and state level communities. As students frequently tell us, after finishing one of the GSOE programs they feel empowered and ready to meet the many challenges facing our P-16 institutions of education.
Whether you are a student with the goal of becoming a teacher or counselor, a professional who is looking to enhance your knowledge and skills, or an advanced educator interested in new opportunities and leadership challenges through our doctoral programs, the GSOE is ready to assist you in achieving your professional goals.
Please take a moment to review our programs and then contact us if you have any questions. As people who care deeply about the communities in which we live and serve, we are here to assist you in any way we can. Welcome to Cal Lutheran and the Graduate School of Education!
Sincerely,
Michael R. Hillis, Ph.D.
