California Lutheran University is an educational community committed to fostering
a safe and healthy educational environment that promotes student success. All members
of the university community are responsible for contributing to a healthy campus culture
that supports students who do not use alcohol as well as students who use alcohol
responsibly. Students are expected to make healthy choices concerning alcohol use
and to do their part to ensure the safety of other students. The University provides
educational resources, activities and programming focused on responsible alcohol use,
resources on the effects of alcohol misuse, as well as services and information for
students who need help for themselves or others related to alcohol use.
Possession and consumption of alcohol is permitted by persons 21 years of age or older
only after successful completion of the alcohol permit educational program and only
in private bedrooms within University residence halls, where at least one assigned
resident is 21 years of age or older. If all students are 21 and over in the suite,
alcohol is permitted in common areas and refrigerators.
Students, ages 21 years or older, may apply for an alcohol permit for their residential
suite.
To apply for the permit, they must use this dynamic form, students must list their current room assignment and the names of all residents
in the suite.
The application for the alcohol permit will be processed once all roommates have signed
the application and eligibility has been verified. Following processing of the permit,
all residents of the suite will be added to the Canvas Community for the “Residential
Alcohol Permit Process”
All residents of the suite, regardless of age, will be required to complete the “Residential
Alcohol Permit Process” on Canvas.
Students should look for the “Residential Alcohol Permit Process” listed under their
courses and communities on their Canvas dashboard.
Students are asked to read and acknowledge all statements under the “Read & Sign”
module on the Residential Alcohol Permit Process Community.
A physical permit will be delivered to your suite after a staff member from Residence
Life and Student Conduct verifies that all residents have completed the necessary
steps.
Residents will receive an email from conduct@CalLutheran.edu upon completion the permit process, notifying them that a physical permit will be
delivered to their room.

Does Cal Lutheran offer substance-free housing?
Students requesting a substance-free living environment can reach out to reslife@CalLutheran.edu for more information. Additionally, at the beginning of each semester, Resident Assistants will assist each suite in completing
a Roommate Agreement. This document serves as a mutually agreed-upon contract for
residents of the suite, where specific expectations can be established for the group.
The Roommate Agreement provides another opportunity for roommate groups to engage
in dialogue around preferences and lifestyle habits. As part of this process, students
may choose to outline expectations around substance use within their suite.
