Dr. Lorri Santamaría
Director of Faculty Development and Inclusive Excellence
Dr. Lorri Santamaría holds a PhD in Bilingual Multicultural Special Education from the University of Arizona. Her professional career has taken her from Cal State San Marcos as a full professor in the College of Education, to the University of Auckland New Zealand as the Head of School for the School of Teacher Preparation, and most recently here to Ventura County since 2017 as the Director and principal investigator for the Healing the Soul project at the Mixteco/Indígena Community Organizing Project, which many of us will know by its acronym MICOP.
Dr. Santamaría has numerous publications within the scope of this position, including, among others, the books Applied critical leadership: Choosing change and Culturally responsive leadership in higher education: Praxis promoting access, equity and improvement.
Today she connects her active research agenda and her grounding as a faculty member to her presentation topic titled “How would you lead a faculty development session on creating an equitable classroom? Please include how to evaluate at least two key features of a course syllabus through a DEI lens.”

Ninelihle is a first-year International Student from Zimbabwe. She is majoring in Global studies and minoring in Gender and Women’s Studies. Nina is very much passionate about knowing and understanding cultural diversity as well as learning other languages. Also working in the role of Student Assistant in support of the Center for Teaching and Learning in the area of Faculty Development and Inclusive Excellence, she is excited to share her culture as working to support Faculty and Students at Cal Lutheran University.

Rebekah is a First year student here at CLU, graduating in 2026. She is majoring in Business Administration and is in the process of identifying an emphasis and a minor. Rebekah is from Nigeria and has been in the U.S for 13 years now. She is a Christian and very dedicated to her faith and relationships with God. Rebekah is part of the leadership team for the African Student Association (ASA), and active in other clubs on campus. She loves her culture, music, spending time with friends and family. She has been working as Student Assistant supporting the Center for Teaching and Learning in the area of Faculty Development and Inclusive Excellence since January 2023 and is excited to support Faculty and Students.
