Programming Initiatives
Following review of the Summer 2020 Cultural and Religious Holiday University Task Force Recommendations and consultation between key campus constituents in Spring 2022, the DEIJB Core Team recommends the adoption of the following social justice-centered DEIJB programming initiatives.
1. Signature Events Schedule
In alignment with Cal Lutheran's mission and identity as an HSI, Cal Lutheran will commit to recognizing specific DEIJB programming to create a more inclusive, welcoming campus environment with an emphasis on student engagement, and opportunities for the full campus community to connect.
The University will commit to hosting six signature events/programs comprised of multiple
elements. A signature program/event marks an opportunity to encourage the campus community
(students, faculty & staff) to gather to celebrate and learn. DEIJB and CCEI will
be the main sponsors who will make the necessary budget available for these signature
events: DEIJB for faculty/staff and CCEI for students. The HSI-DEIJB Director will
serve as a coordinator to identify partnerships and supporting leadership (e.g., offices/units/academic
programs/etc.). CCEI will coordinate student group engagement and general student-oriented
programming.

October | LGBTQIA+ History Month
November | Indigenous Peoples' Heritage Month

- Signature events will incorporate educational opportunities, cultural celebrations, faith connections, and/or community and service engagement options.

3. Religious and Cultural Observances
There are too many days of observance to adequately address everyone, but a select representation of religious and cultural observances is provided to raise awareness of the observances.
The DEIJB Core Team recommends that Mission and Identity take the lead in identifying and establishing an appropriate visual highlight with brief description to include an annual (a) post via the Cal Lutheran social media platforms, (b) informational post on the HUB, and (c) inclusion on the Campus Weds Weekly Announcements. No funds requested, but in-kind support required.
