Model United Nations

Cal Lutheran's Model United Nations researches and debates global issues facing the international community while representing actual countries and their positions inside and outside the classroom.

This past February, representing Trinidad and Tobago, theModel United Nations attended the prestigious 57th session of Harvard National Model United Nations in Boston, Massachusetts.

After extensively researching Trinidad and Tobago and their respective topics, Cal Lutheran students received the unique opportunity to spend four days in an environment driven by international policy. Among 3,000 participants from over 250 colleges and universities, 40 international, Model UN students debated, discussed, and drafted resolutions to help solve the greatest challenges facing the international community today.

Students explored creative solutions to global challenges in fields ranging from international peace and security to economic and social progress and human rights. Dr. Freeland, the faculty advisor and professor for Model UN, attends the Harvard conference every February with a group of students and explains, "We represent [Trinidad and Tobago] as they would represent themselves. For students, it becomes about forming coalitions while developing confidence as a public speaker."

The Model UN attends other local conferences which give students further opportunities to become involved and participate in the Model UN process. The Model UN is open to all students and is a truly unique experience.
