Teaching Credential

If you would like to earn a credential to teach English in grades 7-12, then it's recommended that you take choose the Single-Subject Degree Track, which will help prepare you to pass the California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET) in English.

Students who plan to become English teachers in grades 7-12 in California are also encouraged to take and pass the required California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) by their senior year.

You may also get a headstart on your teaching credential, such as Cal Lutheran's Preliminary Teaching Credential, through graduate courses taken in your senior year.

Teach For America Program

The Teach For America program focuses on eliminating educational inequality by providing well-trained teachers to rural and urban regions across the country in an effort to improve struggling education systems. Teachers involved in the program lead students to achieving their greatest potential both within the classroom and within the community. Teach For America caters to all grade levels—pre-kindergarten through high school—with a broad range of subjects in order to provide higher quality education to rural and urban students throughout the nation.
