The National Criminal Justice Honor Society

The purposes of Alpha Phi Sigma shall be to promote critical thinking, rigorous scholarship and lifelong learning; to keep abreast of the advances in scientific research; to elevate the ethical standards of the criminal justice professions and to sustain in the public mind the benefit and necessity of education and professional training.

  • Alpha Phi Sigma is a springboard for professional growth. Opportunities are made available to the members for promoting their research, receiving national recognition, meeting and interacting with leaders in the criminal justice field, and meeting and interacting with Alpha Phi Sigma members of other chapters across the country who also will be future leaders.
  • The United States Government recognizes membership in Alpha Phi Sigma as meeting one of the requirements for entrance at the GS-7 level in the Federal service.
  • Membership is for life.

Membership requirements

Alpha Phi Sigma is the nationally recognized honor society for students in the criminal justice sciences. The society recognizes academic excellence by undergraduates as well as graduate students of criminal justice.

To become a member, the student must have completed one-third of their total hours required for graduation at his/her institution. The student must be recommended, to National, by the chapter advisor.

Undergraduate students must maintain a minimum of 3.2 overall GPA on a 4.0 scale, a 3.2 GPA, on a 4.0 scale, in criminal justice courses. The student must also rank in the top 35% of their classes and have completed a minimum of four courses within the criminal justice curriculum. The Honor Society is open to those with a declared criminal justice major or minor.
