What is the Pre-Pharmacy Committee (PPC)?
The Pre-Pharmacy Professions Committee at CLU is a committee of Career Services professionals and Science Faculty formed to assist CLU students and alumni to gain entrance into Pharmacy programs. The main purpose of the PPC is to submit all students Letters of Recommendations to various schools and build CLU’s reputation as a Pre-Pharmacy university.
What are the benefits of using the Committee?
Many Pharmacy schools prefer a formal committee turn in recommendations, ensuring their confidential delivery. The committee is also useful when asking faculty or off campus letter writers for letters that may need to be sent to 10–20 schools. The Pre-Pharmacy Committee will handle mailing letters by deadlines to various schools. Writers need to send letters to Career Services by April 15th of each year. In addition, the committee drafts a cover letter and attaches to the separate letters. When your letters are mailed to schools, the committee will include a statement that the student applying has waived all rights to the contents of their Pre-Pharmacy file, mostly referring to the Letters of Recommendation. Lastly, Pharmacy Schools get accustom to committees submitting letters and start to recognize the quality of the students who go through the formal committee. Students are still responsible for applying online, taking the PCAT or other exams, and forwarding transcripts.
What do I need to do to take advantage of this program?
Pick up a Pre-Pharmacy packet at the Career Center. It will include:
- Student Information Form/Waiver of Rights to Pre-Pharmacy File – This form starts your file. Complete and sign and begin to turn in transcripts, resume, PHARMCAS or online application printout, personal statement, and PCAT or other scores. Then when secondary requests from schools come in, your file is ready and you just provide us via email with where you want us to send letters. Also includes waiver statement to be signed and dated which states you will not have access to your file and that it is confidential.
- Applicant Summary Sheet – Used as a guide for letter writers. You will submit the completed Applicant Summary Sheet to faculty or employers, which provides information about you
- Packet of handouts including courses to take, timeline, PCAT information, Pharmacy School interviews, etc.
What is the deadline to have letters sent by faculty to Committee?
Faculty will need to address letters to “Dear Pharmacy School Admissions:” and send them to Career Services/PPC (mail code 2400) by the April 15th deadline. We will make copies of all letters and send out to Pharmacy Schools who request a secondary application. There is no limit for the number of schools to which the PPC will send the Composite Letter and copies of your Recommendations.
When will the Committee send my letters to schools?
From July 15th to November 30th. The Committee will keep original copies of all letters.

This format is more convenient for the applicant, the participating schools and their national association, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP).
This comprehensive service:
- Facilitates applications to pharmacy colleges and schools
- Helps admissions offices with processing, reviewing, and analyzing applications
- Promotes the profession of pharmacy to interested applicants
- Houses a rich database of applicant information and links to websites
Logging In
You may log onto your PharmCAS application to edit your data as often as you wish until you submit your final application to PharmCAS. Save your application frequently to protect against lost data.
PharmCAS is for first-year professional pharmacy degree applicants only. High school students, BS of Pharmacy degree graduates, and current pharmacy students who wish to transfer to another pharmacy degree program should contact institutions directly for instructions. Not all pharmacy colleges and schools participate in the PharmCAS program. For a list of institutions who participate, check the School Information page.
What You Need to Do
- Submit a complete web application.
- Arrange for PharmCAS to receive an official transcript from all accredited US and English-speaking Canadian institutions attended by the deadline, and make sure that a copy of the PharmCAS Transcript Request Form is attached to each transcript.
- Send letters of reference, foreign transcript evaluation reports, and test scores (PCAT, TOEFL, and TSE) scores to PharmCAS by the application deadline, if required by your designated pharmacy schools.
- Submit the correct PharmCAS application fee by the deadline, with the PharmCAS Payment Form (The fee for using PharmCAS application is based on a graduated scale that varies according to the number of institutions you designate to receive your PharmCAS application. Your application will not be processed until your payment is received. Anywhere from $135–$1730).
Your designated pharmacy schools may require additional fees and/or application materials, including supplemental applications and letters of recommendation. Failure to submit all required materials as instructed may jeopardize your eligibility for admission consideration.
Apply Early!
Participating PharmCAS programs encourage applicants to submit applications at least two weeks before their institutional deadline to avoid Web congestion due to heavy applicant and Internet traffic. Submitting your materials early will insure timely processing, help avoid delays, and may improve your chances for admission to those pharmacy institutions that use a rolling admissions process. PharmCAS is not responsible for any materials lost in the mail or for delays caused by the registrar's office. Express or certified mail does not guarantee expedient processing, nor does sending transcripts express or certified guarantee receipt by PharmCAS.
