Overview
- Any major is acceptable for pursuing a career in law. Common majors include political science, philosophy, psychology, and criminal justice. Political Science offers a Law and Public Policy concentration and the Law and Criminal Behavior Applications concentration is available through Psychology. View our majors
- All law school applicants are required to take the LSAT entrance exam. The LSAT is administered by the Law School Admission Council and tests reading comprehension, analytical reasoning, and logical reasoning. It is a half-day, standardized test administered four times each year. About the LSAT

What is Law School Application Assistance Program?
The Law School Application Assistance Program at CLU is a free service to assist CLU students and alumni with the application process for Law School.
Resume Assistance and Reviews
Whether you are just getting started with putting together a resume or already have one in place, Career Services can help you with getting it ready for law/legal related internships or for law school applications. Access samples in the document library and upload your rough draft for a counselor to review in clupostings, attend a resume writing workshop or schedule an appointment with a career counselor. A resume is a crucial part of the application process, you'll want to make sure it's in the correct format and includes everything you need!
Do I Need an Internship?
Yes! Not only do internships look great on your resume and applications, but it also helps you decide if law school and a legal career is the right fit. Internships are also a great way to establish contacts in the field for informational interviews and possible letters of recommendation. Personal Statement Resources and Reviews
A written statement is required as part of the application process. Prompts and requirements may vary by school, but Career Services has tip sheets and samples and can review your first draft once you have it completed.
LSAT Exam and Test Prep Info
A good LSAT score is essentail to get into law school. Learn more about the format of the test and ways to prepare to get the score you want.
How will my letters be sent to schools?
Letters are uploaded directly to LSAC by letter writers. Once you enter their information into the letter of recommendation section of the application they will receive an email with a link to upload thier letter.
The basic components of the application do not change from school to school. The requirements include:
- A Personal Statement
- Biographical Data
- Undergraduate and Graduate (if any) Transcripts
- LSAT Score
- Letters of Recommendation
- Resume
Sample Law School Application Timeline
April/May
- Research different law schools.
- Make application schedule.
June
- Register for the LSAT September test.
- Subscribe to the LSAC.
- Arrange for your transcripts to be sent to LSAC.
- Start LSAT prep course or self study.
August/September
- Take September LSAT.
- Arrange for letters of recommendation and print out Applicant Summary forms and instructions on how to upload letters for each evaluator.
October/November
- Receive LSAT scores.
- Complete applications and apply.
December
- Take December LSAT (if necessary).
January/February
- Federal financial aid applications become available.
- Complete financial aid applications.
March/April/May
- Receive responses from law schools.
- Visit schools.
- Receive financial aid determinations from law schools.
- Make decisions and submit admissions deposit.
June/July
- Work or participate in summer enrichment program if offered.
August/September
- Register and begin law school.
